El ritual de la cohoba es la ceremonía en donde los Tainos pueden conversar con sus espíritus ancestrales, mejor conocidos como los cemí.  Es dirigido por un behique, shaman Taíno, y todos los miembros de la comunidad participan.  Se pulverizan las semillas del árbol de cohoba y se mezclan con tabaco y conchas.  La mezcla luego se inhala con el uso de un inhalador y, a mediados del trance, se abren las puertas al mundo shamanico.
 
The cohoba ritual is the ceremony where the Tainos can converse with their ancestral spirits, the cemí. With the help of the behique, Taino shaman, the ritual can commence and all members of the community participate. The seeds of the cohoba tree are pulverized and is mixed with tobacco and sea shells. The mixture is then inhaled with the use of an inhaler and then the participant enters the shamanic world through trance.
